Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs.

Task 1:
Think about Captain Flinn. What do we know about him from the story so far? Draw an outline of Flinn and write everything we know about him around the picture. In a different colour you could also write how we know this e.g. He is kind – he asks ‘Whats the matter?’

Task 2:
Write some sentences to describe Captain Flinn. Use conjunctions in your sentences such as  ‘and, but, or, when, if, because.’

Here is an example:

Captain Flinn was brave when he crept closer and closer to the noise.

When you have finished, email me a picture of your work and I can share it on the blog.

In this story Captain Flynn finds the dinosaurs on an island. Imagine you got stuck on an island. What would you like to have with you ?

Make a list.
You could include:
Food / drink / tastes
Clothes / items of clothing / accessories
Music / songs / composers / artists
Luxury items
Favourite things
Sounds
Nature
Family / friends
Feelings
Books
Hobbies

If you like you could draw a picture of your island with all of your favourite things on it with you.

Now write some descriptive sentences to describe the things on your island. Add detail and exciting vocabulary. Here is an example:

My Desert Island Wish List

I would take…

a white chocolate chip fountain,

dripping down onto a sea of sparkly marshmallows;

fizzy coca-cola;

Toothless’s music, turned up to ten;

a shiny and sparkly invisibility cloak;

a really bouncy hopper;

the happy sound of the ice cream van;

I would take…

all the dragons there are in the world;

my brother, Archie;

a lot of bottles

so I could send letters to my friends;

happiness and laughter;

snow and ice;

We have started using a new reading program called Bug Club. Children are able to use it to read books at their level and do quizzes that test their understanding. I have emailed all parents that I had email addresses for with their child’s user name, password and school code. If you have not received this then please contact the school.

Can you make up your own riddle about an animal?
Here’s what you need to do:
– Choose your animal
– Draw a picture of your animal
– Label your animal with what you know about the animal.

Now turn your labels into a riddle like this:

What am I?
Fast-swimmer.
Lake-liver.
Long-snouter.
Bite giver.

The Elves and the Shoemaker

This week we are going to continue to learn about the Elves and the Shoemaker. Reread the story or listen to it again on last week’s English blog post.

Lesson 1.

Try and label your costume design using exciting noun phrases e.g. shiny, silver bells or ruby, red ribbons. Email me a photo of your designs using the Year 2 email address in your report and I will share them on here.

Lesson 2

Remember to use your writing targets from your reports in your postcard.

Lesson 3:

Clary, Pepper and Jas have lots of elf friends who like to help people too:
– Jolly and Merry help Father Christmas
– Cupcake and Cookie help Mr & Mrs Pie in their bakery
Can you make up a story about some elves that help people?
A) Decide who you characters are. Who needs help? What are the elves’ names?
B) Where does your story take place?
