Topic – week beginning 6th July

St Lucia

The first European settler on Saint Lucia was a French pirate called François Le Clerc. His nickname was ‘Wooden Leg’ and he would attack passing Spanish ships from his base on Pigeon Island in the 1550s. The island was then used by the British and French to protect their interests from pirates and the Spanish. The famous pirate, Blackbeard, is also said to have stashed his treasure in Black Bay (Vieux Fort).

This week we are going to find out all about him. Look at this sheet in your home school packs.

Task:
Read the key facts about François Le Clerc then write a story about him. What adventures did he have?
