Make a handmade card for Eid.

You will need: a piece of card or paper, foil, and some black paper (or white paper that you can colour black).

1. Fold a piece of card in two.
2. Draw the outline of a mosque and some other some buildings onto the front of the card and colour them in black. (If you have some black paper you can draw the outline of the buildings onto it, cut them out and then stick onto the bottom of the card).
3. If your card is white, colour the night sky dark blue.
4. Next draw a thin crescent moon onto some silver foil, using a pencil.
5. Carefully cut around the shape of the moon.
6. Try to draw some stars on the foil too and cut them out.
7. Stick these silver shapes onto the card, above the buildings.
8. Write Eid Mubarak on the front of the card in your best handwriting.

Here is an Eid poem that I have written. Can you find the rhymes? Try to write one to go inside your card.

Dazzling light, new moon bright,
See it in the sky tonight,
Silver moon, shining clear,
Telling us that Eid is here.

Year 1 Bird and Bug Spotting Competition

I have been noticing lots of wildlife around now it is Spring and getting warmer. Yaqub sent me a picture of a bug that landed on his work and Ilyas has been looking at all the birds in the park near his house. What animals can you spot near your house?

Can you make a picture of one animal you find? Can you label the parts of it’s body? You can use the word mats to help you.

You could make a tally chart of the animals you see. Who can find the most?

Send me an email to tell me how you get on – or click comment at the bottom of this message.

Can you be a zoo keeper?

Zookeepers have to look after their animals very well. The most important job is giving the animals the right food. Did you know not all animals can eat the same food? Watch the video to find out.

  • Most people eat all sorts of different foods. We eat meat, dairy and plants. We are called Omnivores, because we can eat both meat and plants.
  • Other animals only eat meat – they kill other animals and eat them. These are animals like lions and tigers. We call these animals: Carnivores.
  • The last group of animals only eat plants – like leaves and grass. They are called Herbivores. Can you think of any animals like this?Could you draw one animal for each group and then say what you would feed that animal if you were the zoo keeper? I have made a zoo keeper’s shopping list. You could do the same. What animals would you like in your zoo. Can you find out what they eat? Are they a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore?

Maths for week beginning 11th May

Lesson 1: Making Equal Groups
Last week we put objects into groups to help us count them.  This week we are sharing our objects out equally.. This means every group needs to be the same. I have been sorting my socks into groups.  Click on the picture to watch my video. What different sized groups did I use?

Sharing Equally
I decided to have a teddy bear’s picnic. Click on the picture to watch how I shared the food out. Can you do the same at home? You could share food, toys, books, pencils…..anything! Draw some pictures of your sharing and remember to say how many groups you have and how many are in each group. p34 and 35 in your maths home book practices this.

Lesson 2: Finding half
Today we are cutting or sharing objects in half. This means we cut them into 2 pieces – but both piece have to be the same.
p36 and 37 of your home maths book looks at halves too.
