Maths – week beginning 15th June

Lesson 1: Making Equal Groups:  Today we are putting objects into equal groups. Find this video from week 2 lesson 3.

Can you get some objects and split them into equal groups. You could take some sweets, some coins, your toys, etc. Practice saying: “ There are 4 equal groups of 3  OR there are 5 equal groups of 2.”

Lesson 2: Adding Equal Groups: Find this video from week 2 lesson 4 shows how to add equal groups together.
I used pasta made 3 equal groups with 10 pieces of pasta in each group.    I can write this as 10 + 10 + 10.
If I count all my pieces of pasta, or if I count in 10s then I have 30 pieces of pasta altogether. (10, 20, 30)

Lesson 3: Making arrays to count in groups  Watch this video to see how to count in arrays. After the video can you make some arrays and count the objects? Remember to arrange the objects in rows and columns like I did. They are easy to count if you arrange them in groups of 2, 5 or 10.

Lesson 4: Doubling: Watch the video by clicking on the butterfly picture to see how I double some numbers. Can you make some lovely doubling butterflies like I did in the video? Draw a butterfly and fold your picture in half. Then open it up and put some spots on one wing with paint. Fold it in half again and press down. You should have double the number of spots now.

Lesson 5: Practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Counting in 2s                   Counting in 5s                      Counting in 10s

Design your own animal.

You are exploring the mountains in Wales when you discover a completely new animal.

  • What does your animal look like?
  • Does it have skin, scales, fur or feathers?
  • How many legs does it have?
  • Does it have wings and a beak or does it have claws or fins?

Make a picture of your animal and label all the different parts of it’s body. Use this word mat to help you.
