I wonder who can guess today’s Silly Soup:
This week’s challenge is to make something grow! You don’t need any special equipment, you can make lots of things grow, even yourself. Here are just a few of the things you could try.
If you choose vegetable tops you can use the sprouting vegetables as a new land for your dinosaur toys to explore!
This week we are looking at take away and I would like you to play some games. Make a tower for each person playing with 10 bricks in it. Take it in turns to roll a dice and take away the number of bricks it shows. The winner gets rid of their bricks the quickest.
Another game to play is skittles. Collect 10 things that are easy to knock down, half full plastic bottles, cups, toys, anything! Then get a ball and take it in turns to try and knock them down. Can you record how many left by taking away the ones that fell down? You could even write it as a sum.
Could you come up with your own game to help your practice taking away?
There are lots of activities on Busy Things too.
This week we are reading The Enormous Turnip. It is a traditional tale which means that it is a story lots of people tell and so there are lots of versions.
I would like you to draw yourself pulling an enormous turnip and add in all the people you would like to help you. Can you label all the people with their names?
This week we are going to look at a different version of Jack and the Beanstalk – Jim and the Beanstalk! It’s written by a man called Raymond Briggs who wrote The Snowman. I don’t have a copy at home so we are watching someone else read it this time.
This week’s task is to write your own beanstalk story. Ibrahim and the Beanstalk, or Tasnia and the Beanstalk! I have put a couple of story maps to help you plan what you will write and you have plenty of paper in your packs to use.
I can’t wait to read your stories!
Don’t forget to email them or upload them to Early Excellence.
This week we are thinking about adding. Can you draw all the characters in Wishy Washy Day? How many are there? What about how many legs altogether?
You could help your adult set the table for Iftar, how many cups and plates altogether?
What about putting away the washing… How many tshirts do you and your brother or sister have altogether? Make a pile for each and count them, then work out how many altogether.
There are lots of activities on Busy Things too.
