LO: Adding a 2-digit and a 1-digit number

We having been learning to add on a number line. This is a very important method in year 2. Look at the following instructions to remind yourself what to do. Then answer the questions. Try and draw the number line even if you already know the answer in your head. This will help you when you have to add bigger numbers later in the year.

12 + 3 =
16 + 2 =
13 + 4 =
23 + 2 =
26 + 2 =
35 + 4 =
27 + 6 =
58 + 4 =
69 + 7 =
88 + 6 =

Half Term Homework

Maths
This half term I would like you to learn to count in 2s, 5s and 10s forwards and backwards to 100.  I will be testing children on this after the holiday and children who are able to do it will earn a certificate like this:

You will get a certificate if you can count in 2s, another one if you can count in 5s and another one if you can count in 10s.
Make sure you can count backwards as well as forwards. 

Extra challenge: If you can already do this then try learning to count in 3s and 4s? or you could learn to count in 10s starting from different numbers
e.g. 3, 13, 23, 33, 43…

English
This half term please make sure you can read and spell all of the tricky words from phases 2 to 4.

If you would like an extra challenge you can begin to learn some of the words from the next 200 words list.

It is very important that children read regularly at home. In Year 2 at Hague we now use Bug Club texts to enhance our teaching of reading. It is important that children become familiar with using this program as it will soon replace paper texts for some children and is an extremely useful tool for teaching your children to read.

Please login with your children regularly and encourage them to read the online books and answer the questions.

Maths
This week we have been learning to compare and order numbers in ascending and descending order.

Do you remember what that means?

Ascending means the numbers go from the least to the greatest.

Descending means they go from the greatest to the least.

Have a go at this game to practice ordering numbers. Then do the home work in your home work book.

Literacy
This week we have been learning about adjectives.

An adjective is a word that describes a noun (the name of a thing or a place).

Watch this clip to remind yourself about adjectives then complete the activity in your homework book.

It is very exciting to be back at school and we have made a fantastic start to the year!

I will now  be using the Year 2 blog to post work for any children who are having to isolate at home.

I will also post weekly home work and  extra ideas for how to improve your skills and learning at home. I will also continue to give work in home work books for children who find it difficult to access the internet. Please check this blog regularly for new posts.

As you have now come to the end of your time in year 2. I would like you to reflect on the memories you have made this year. Make a memory page using this sheet as a guide:

Look for this sheet in your home learning pack. Can you answer the questions? When you have finished mark them with the answer sheet in your pack.

Now work through these lessons from the BBC bitesize website. If the lessons involve a work sheet that you are unable to print then just choose the questions that you are able to do by copying them into your maths book.

 

 

 

 

Literacy – week beginning 13th July

If you had books sent home then you will not have this work. Work your way through your books trying to do at least one page every day. This work is for the Year 2 children who received folders containing sets of worksheets.

Spellings
Find this sheet in your home learning pack. Write out these spellings using your best handwriting. Ask someone at home to test if you know them.

Writing
Find this sheet in your home learning pack. Can you write some sentences about the pirate ship? Try and use some of the key words in your writing. Send me a picture of your work when you have finished.

Reading
Now find this sheet in your pack and answer the questions. Remember to read the text carefully. When you have finished use the answers to mark your work.

Grammar
See how much grammar you can remember by completing this SPaG mat. You can use the answer booklet to mark your work and see which ones you got right.
