Go on a pretend holiday in the UK.

Next week is our half term holiday. We are not allowed to go anywhere on holiday at the moment, but we can use our imaginations and pretend!!
We want you to plan your own pretend UK holiday. You can pick anywhere in the United Kingdom that you would like to visit. Here are a few ideas:

Plan your holiday:

  • Where are you going? What country is it in? England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales? Can you draw a map?
  • How will you get there? Would you go by car, train or aeroplane? How long will it take you? What places would you go past on your way? You can use google maps to help you find directions.
  • Where would you like to sleep when you get there? Will you stay in a hotel or will you camp in a tent? Remember – this is an imaginary holiday so it can be anything you like!
  • What will you do there? Can you find out what special things you can do there. What things can you visit or see or do? Will you climb mountains, swim in the sea, explore castles or go for long walks
  • What will you eat? Different parts of the UK have special food they are famous for eg Wales is famous for bara brith, Scotland is famous for haggis and shortbread, Ireland has champ or soda bread, and in England we like scones and jam, cake or fish and chips at the seaside. Can you find out what special food they have where you want to go? You might even be able to make some of it.

Go on your holiday!! (or pretend to)
When you have made your plan, maybe you and your family can act out your holiday

  • you could pack a little bag…remember your toothbrush!
  • make a den to sleep in…is it your tent or a hotel room?
  • pretend to do some of the special things you would do on holiday.
  • take some holiday photos of your family doing holiday things.
  • build a model of some of the places you would see there and show your family around?
  • go on a walk and pretend to see the sights, climb a mountain, etc.
  • make a souvenir to bring home. This will help you to remember your holiday.

Finally: Can you make a postcard to send to Jo and Alison? You should draw a lovely picture on one side of something you saw on your holiday and then write a letter to tell us everything you did. We can’t wait to hear all about your pretend holidays. (Maybe we will do one too!) If you live near the school you could post it in the school post box on Wilmot Street.
